Foods High in Omega-3:Omega-3 comes from two main sources, animal and plant.

Animal and marine sources primarily provide EPA and DHA, which the human body can directly and efficiently absorb. Examples include deep-sea fish such as salmon, mackerel, saury, sardines, and herring. Fish roe, shrimp, and shellfish also contain some Omega-3.

Plant and algal sources mainly provide alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which needs to be partially converted into EPA and DHA in the body. Microalgae/algal oil is a vegan source that can provide both DHA and EPA. Chia seeds, flaxseed and flaxseed oil, perilla seed oil, hemp seeds, and walnuts are rich in ALA, while cruciferous vegetables such as Brussels sprouts and edamame contain only trace amounts of ALA.
